Web host bulletin from http://HostingRated.net
It has happened to me a couple of times. I finally got around to setting up a site. Whew! But, then the morning comes and I crack open an eye lid to the sight of my site being down. No problem, I'll just wait a couple of seconds and it'll be back up. In most cases, it pans out as such.
However, not this time. This time the host has hit the road. And, to make matters worse, a narly message apprears: "Account suspended!" You think, "Gee, did I do something wrong?" No, it turns out that you were dealing with a reseller. But, to any visitor it seems like you just committed a federal offense.
So, now what? You're all stressed as you are losing money by the second. Well, let me tell you: this is not the time to first do research on a backup host.
When you are researching a host, keep notes. Come up with a list of 5 of them.
Have a checklist of the features you're seeking. List first the MUST HAVES. You know, things like unlimited space, unlimited bandwidth, FrontPage extensions, etc.
The best way I've found is to use a spreadsheet. Use MS Excel if you have it. Save it, obviously, and also back it up.
So, if a host goes down, rather than lashing out in an emotional frenzy, you can defer to your list and sign up with the next hosting service.
Personally, I have 2 hosts at once. I keep half on one and the other half on the other. This way, if one goes down, I point the domains to the other host. This sure beats getting a host and wait on their confirmation, etc.
